I'd love to meet with your class!

Visiting classrooms and libraries to speak with readers is one of the highlights of being a children's book author.

I offer in-person or online visits of 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or one hour. The content of my books is best suited for grades 3 through 7, and they include many curriculum connections!

I'm happy to tailor my presentation according to your and your student’s interests, for example, a reading and Q&A session, a session based around a writing exercise, etc.

"We had SUCH an amazing visit with Megan. Our students loved the different examples she read from her book ‘Design Like Nature’ and they especially enjoyed all the samples & props she brought in. They asked lots of questions, and were totally engaged in the activity she had them do at the end. Their homeroom teacher also commented on how great the whole presentation was, and how the topics and activity connected so much to what they are learning about in class." Mrs. Crystal Cahill, Elementary Library Teacher

During my presentations, students get a chance to think critically and create amazing art.

Design the City of Your Dreams!

What makes a city a great place to live? A house or apartment surrounded by trees? Giant parks to play with friends? An ice cream shop within a walk? A speedy subway? A convenient water fountain to quench your thirst? Or is it feeling safe and welcome when you stroll the streets? Today, about four billion people—more than half the world’s population—live in cities. This number could rise to 7 billion by 2050. Taking inspiration from CITIES: HOW HUMANS LIVE TOGETHER (Orca Books, May 2023), this hands-on workshop will give students the opportunity to discover how people around the world are creating more sustainable and inclusive cities and to design the city of their dreams.

Exploring Positive Ways to Create Change

Taking inspiration from my book FRESH AIR, CLEAN WATER: Our Right to a Healthy Environment, this visit introduces social and environmental justice, kid activists from around the world, kids that are heading to court to protect the environment, and hopeful ways to create change. I’ll do short readings, use slides, images, and videos to keep the presentation lively and lead interactive activities to encourage participation. The presentation will be grounded in hope and focus on positive ways to create change.

Problem-Solve with Nature

Can we learn from nature to solve environmental problems and live in better harmony with our world? Yes, yes we can!

In this program based on DESIGN LIKE NATURE, students will learn about the field of biomimicry: problem-solving, innovations, inventions, and design inspired by nature. Biomimicry is a great example of a field that crosses traditional boundaries and includes not just scientists and engineers, but architects, designers, and more.

Through slides, images, and a reading from the book followed by an interactive activity and Q&A, students will explore biomimicry and have the chance to create their own biomimicry invention!

From Spark to Fire: Developing Story Ideas

How does a book get from the kernel of an idea to an entire story? In this program, I explore topics such as how sparks of ideas are fuelled into stories and the creativity behind that process. I use fun writing prompts that get students’ creativity revved up! I also talk about being an author and save time for Q&A.
For grades 6-8

Write, Rewrite, Repeat!

After you've written your first draft, the fun of revising begins! This presentation focuses on techniques for revising and that it can be a fun part of the creative process. I'll use examples from my own published books, showing students early drafts, the editing process, and then the final product and how I went about making those changes.
